Y'all. Let me tell you about the day I photographed Jan's family at Waveform here in Austin, because it might be my favorite kind of shoot: the "everyone coordinated in pink and nobody complained about it" kind. Jan brought her husband, her two sons, and her daughter, who happened to be turning one that very week, and the whole crew showed up ready to have fun. We did the classic family portraits first (three boys and dad all matching in pink polos, be still my heart), then moved into a princess castle backdrop for the birthday girl's solo moment. When she gave me that gummy, cheek-scrunching smile, I nearly dropped my camera. Absolute heart melter.
Here's the thing about August in Austin: it is not photoshoot weather. Not for adults, and definitely not for a toddler in a tulle dress and a one year old's patience level. That is exactly why I love pulling families into Waveform or my own home studio (normally my headshot spot) during the summer months. Climate controlled, zero sweat, zero meltdowns from overheated kiddos, and the lighting is honestly better than what you'll fight for outside at golden hour anyway. If you have been putting off family photos because it is too hot to function outside, a studio session might be your new favorite option.
If your family (or your almost-one-year-old) needs some adorable, sweat-free photos this summer, I would love to be your photographer. Head to my contact form and get in touch to book your own studio day.
