Listen, when you haven't photographed a group in almost four years, you start to wonder if you still have the magic. Then Lache Movement Co. invites you back and someone shows up as Waluigi in pasties, and honestly, all your self-doubt just evaporates. This was my long-overdue return to photographing Lache in Austin, TX, and I forgot just how spectacular, chaotic, and genuinely fun these performances are. Aerials, costumes, booty cheeks adorned with fake fish (yes, really, Gollum said what he said), and enough energy in that room to power the whole city. I was grinning behind my lens the whole night.


Now here's the thing nobody really talks about with performance art photography: the lighting is a villain. Dim venues and fast-moving bodies are basically a stress test for your camera and your patience, and low-light aerial performance photography in Austin is not for the faint of heart. But I'm genuinely proud of what I came away with from this shoot. Getting sharp, dynamic, emotive shots in those conditions takes some real problem-solving, and when it clicks, it feels amazing. These performers give you everything, and they deserve images that give it right back.
