I shoot a lot of live performances around Austin, but Lache Movement Co has this way of raising the bar every single time and somehow I still get surprised. This latest show leaned hard into UV reactive everything, blacklights, glow paint, neon costumes, the whole nine yards, and trying to nail focus in a room lit like a rave inside a coral reef was exactly the lighting headache I live for. The lira duo doing the sea creature and pirate bit had this playful, almost mischievous energy that translated so well on camera, all sharp angles one second and total goofball laughter the next.
Then there was the piece about ocean litter and its impact on marine life, and I will be honest, I did not expect an aerial silks routine to hit me right in the chest like that. The choreography told a full story, and watching it happen twenty feet up under blacklight made it feel even more otherworldly. Every performer brought something different to the stage, but the whole night had a cohesive psychedelic thread running through it that made for some genuinely stunning frames.
