So here's the thing about showing up to compete at the San Antonio Highland Games and Celtic Festival and also trying to be the photographer, it gets a little wild. Since only two of us signed up for Mens Amateur B Class, the organizers did what any reasonable person would do and threw us straight into the A Class with the pros. Cool, cool, totally fine, completely normal. In between trying not to embarrass myself in front of athletes who have clearly been doing this for longer than me, I managed to get my camera out and shoot some frames.


Highland Games photography has this incredible energy to it. The movement, the grit, the sound of a caber hitting the ground, it's the kind of stuff that makes sports photography genuinely exciting. San Antonio brought that in full force, and I felt more comfortable behind the lens here than I have at any previous games. The chaos actually helped, weirdly enough. When everything around you is loud and unpredictable, you stop overthinking and just start shooting.
