The final Texas Renaissance Festival weekend I covered this season ended up being my absolute favorite. Highland Fling always brings a different kind of energy, and seeing some of my friends from the highland games community out there throwing stones and flipping logs for the crowd was a real treat. Since I was not competing this time, I finally got to focus on making the photos look as good as the action felt. While trekking from the arena back into the festival, I even stumbled into a proposal happening at Odin's Table and managed to catch the moment. Huge congratulations to that couple.


The rest of the weekend kept the momentum going. I finally got the joust shot I had been chasing all season with the lance breaking right on impact, which felt like winning a tiny personal quest. The haggis eating contest was another highlight. My wife and I tried haggis in Scotland and loved it, so I was honestly a little jealous watching everyone get a free serving. I also ran into April Henley, author of Treasures in a Bottle, who was signing her newest book, The Hobgoblins Nightlight. It was one of those weekends where every corner had something happening, and I walked away with a gallery full of moments I am really proud of.
