I spent the day out at Silver Dollar Winery in Johnson City, TX cheering on my wife at the Final Countdown Highland Games, and somewhere between the caber toss and the stone put I could not resist pulling out my camera. I have always loved the atmosphere of these events and this was the perfect chance to get my feet wet in highland game photography while still enjoying the day as a supporter. There is something special about watching someone you love compete and being able to capture those moments made it even better.


Once I started shooting I was reminded of how much I enjoy photographing real energy in motion. The grit the focus the laughter between events it all comes together to tell a story that feels alive. Even though this was a personal day for me it sparked a new excitement for photographing strength based sports and the people who bring them to life.
